“ARTICLES”
1. INDEFINITE
ARTICLE
A/An
are indefinite articles,we use them with singular nouns. It shows that the noun
is general ,not specific.
·
A is used when the initial sound of the word
is a consonant. (ex: a book, a cat, a car)
·
An is used when the initial sound is a vowel.
(ex: an hour, an onion, an apel)
The
purpose of article :
a. To explain one
unit
Example: I waited an hour, His rent is
$200 a mont
b. A/an is used to
refer to a non-spesific or non-particular member of the group.
Example: We saw a lion at the zoo
c. To explain agen
of group.

Example: That animal is a lion

2. DEFINITE ARTICLE
The is a definite article. We use the with a
singular or plural noun. It shows that the noun is specific, not general.
The purpose:

or things that area
Example: He walked into the house and
hang his coat in the closet
b. To people, things
or specific verbal context of idea

Example : A strange dog come onto the
porch. The dog seemed very friendly.
