NOUN CLAUSE

NOUN CLAUSE
1) The Meaning of Noun Clause
Noun clause has a subject and a verb that can be used as a noun

2. The Function of Noun Clause:
1. As a subject of a sentence
Examples:
What he discovered is important
That you feel upset is only natural
WHether you join or not is not my business
2. As an object of sentence
Examples:
I believe what he discovered
I wonder what’s happening
We all have realized that it isn’t good

3) Markers
-What -Who -Whether -How
-When -Why -If
-Where -Whose -That

4) Noun Clause Beginning with WH Question
Examples: What did he discover?
> I don’t know what he discovered
         Whose discovery is that?> > I forget whose discovery that is


5) Noun Clause Beginning with Whether and If
Pattern : Whether/if + S + V
Yes/No questions → To be
→ Do/did/does
→ Have/had/has
→ Modal
Examples:
-Did he know the meeting?
 We don’t know whether/if he know     the meeting
-Will they go to the library?
I wonder whether/if they will go to the library

6) Noun Clause Beginning with That
Pattern : That + S + V
Example:
‘The world is round’
> We know that the world is round
> We know the world is round
> That the world is round is fact


TIP
A that-clause relates to a statement, a wh-clause relates to wh-question, and a clause with if/whether to a yes/no question
